District #1 — Laura Berg
TERM EXPIRES 2028
Laura moved from Minneapolis, Minnesota to Ouray with her husband and 3 children in the summer of 2024. They had long dreamed of living in the mountains, and Ouray felt like the perfect blend of community and adventure.
Dr. Berg is a board-certified emergency physician now practicing at Montrose Regional Hospital. She is committed to maintaining public access to a healthcare facility within Ouray County. Her goal is to maximize the available services while preserving financial sustainability.
This is her first community board membership, though she recently served on the board of a large democratic physician group in Minnesota.
District #2 — Nancy Nixon
TERM EXPIRES 2026
Nancy and her husband John moved to Ouray in 1975. They owned and operated Baker’s Manor Bed and Breakfast for 10 years in the summer months while Nancy taught school and John ‘architected.’ Nancy is a retired teacher with 42 years of classroom and 30 years of directing high school plays and coaching the speech and debate team. She now works at the Ouray Bookshop, drives the Ouray ambulance and enjoys watercolor painting, reading and hiking.
Nancy has served on the boards of The Friends of the Library, Ouray County Fair board, WISE/AAUW, Neighbor-to-Neighbor, the Imogene Pass Run and The Wright Opera House.
District #3 – Mary Ann Guilinger
TERM EXPIRES 2028
Mary Ann Guilinger has been a resident of Ouray County since 2012. She was born and raised in Denver, and along with her husband, David, raised 3 children in Boulder. Mary Ann is a retired CPA. She retired from the federal government as a manager with 30 years of service.
She appreciates the fact that Ouray County, a rural county, has a medical facility which is supported by the Regional Service Authority. Mary Ann and her husband have been patients at Cedar Point Health in Ridgway since they’ve moved to Ouray County. Since retirement, Mary Ann has been a hospice volunteer in patient and family support for HopeWest, volunteers at the Ouray County Food Pantry, performed pro-bono audits and assisted with the preparation of financial statements for a regional non-profit providing transitional housing for families, and is on the parish council for St. Daniel’s Catholic Church in Ouray.
Right now, Mary Ann is the President of the board for Fortuna Tierra Club and is, also, Fundraising Chair. Mary Ann’s hobbies are knitting, skiing, both downhill and cross-country, yoga, and golf.
District #4 – Carolyn Dresler, MD
TERM Expires 2026
Carolyn Dresler, MD, MPA was born, raised and educated in Colorado. She built her dream home in Ouray County in 1998 and retired full time to Colorado in 2018. She retired from the FDA Center for Tobacco Products as the Associate Director for Medical and Health Sciences. She completed a Master in Public Administration at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. She is a retired thoracic surgical oncologist and former Board member for the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer. She was the Head of the Group for Tobacco and Cancer at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France.
Carolyn’s passion is utilizing the human rights framework to improve tobacco control and was the founding President of the international Human Rights and Tobacco Control Network. She is retired from income producing work, but still actively working in western Colorado for local tobacco control regulation and is the coordinator for the state tobacco control Alliance.
She is on the Board of the international non-profit, based in Washington DC, of Action on Smoking and Health. She is also the current (2023-24) co-president of the Ridgway Ouray Community Council.
District #5 – Deborah Denise Boerner
TERM EXPIRES 2028
Deborah Boerner is a native Texan who relocated to Ridgway in 2019 with her husband, Quay, and their son, Brighton, who now attends Colorado Mesa University. Embracing her newfound empty nest, Deborah loves spending time with her three other adult children/spouses in Texas and Japan where her first grandchild resides.
With over 19 years of experience as a bookkeeper, Deborah brings a wealth of knowledge and attention to detail to her work. She also serves as the secretary for the Ouray County Republican Women’s Group, where she contributes her organizational skills and passion for community engagement.
An avid outdoor enthusiast, Deborah takes full advantage of the San Juan Mountains, enjoying hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. Her love for the slopes extends into her seasonal work at the Telluride Ski Resort, where she combines her professional skills with her passion for winter sports.
Whether exploring the trails, connecting with her community, or spending time with her family, Deborah embraces life in Ridgway with energy and enthusiasm.
